Please note: 70 Rokku Mu is currently unavailable. Anticipated availability: SEPT 2023.

The 70 Rokku Mu is the first caster of its kind. It is a locking caster that utilizes one high-precision chrome steel radial ball bearing per caster, and two self-lubricating polymer journal bearings in an efficient arrangement that allows for exceptionally smooth operation and twice the load rating of typical “high-capacity” chair casters, yet with lower costs of production and 30% less weight as compared to our 70 Okina Mu caster. This is the size most often associated with typical office chairs, tables and case goods. Select our 11mm friction sleeve stem mount for chair sockets (the industry standard for chairs), and plate mounts or threaded stems for case goods as necessary.

All wheels come in sets of 5

Standard (11mm) Chair Socket fits all standard chairs

The 70 Rokku Mu is the first caster of its kind. This is the locking/braking version of our 70 Mu, with a lever actuated brake on the rear of the caster (down for lock, up for free). It utilizes one high-precision chrome steel radial ball bearing per caster (for linear motion), and two self-lubricating journal bearings (for independent tire rotation) in an efficient arrangement that allows for exceptionally smooth operation and twice the load rating of typical “high-capacity” chair casters. Because of this hybrid bearing arrangement which lowers cost of production and reduces weight by 30%, the aperture on the 70 Mu is 17% smaller than the 70 Okina Mu. This is the size most often associated with typical office chairs, tables and case goods. Select our 11mm friction sleeve stem mount for chair sockets, and plate mounts or threaded stems for case goods as necessary. Available with easily accessible brake and with an estimated load capacity of 150 lbs. per caster (5 casters = 750 lbs., 4 casters = 600 lbs.). Covered by US patent 8561258. International patents pending. Certified compliant with BIFMA X5.1 durability standards for office chairs.

Please note, the braking lever on the 70 Rokku Mu extends approximately 3/8″ out from the rear of the caster. This lever actuated brake was primarily designed for use with case goods, white boards, carts, etc. in mind. When used on seating applications, it is possible for this lever to contact the back of one’s heel when sitting. For this reason, we recommend the non-braking 70 Mu for chair applications unless the braking capability outweighs this potential interference.

These casters work alright. I would not say they feel any smoother than the original ones I had replaced on my Steelcase Gesture. I would rate them higher but the little lock switches on each caster stick out enough to injure you if you’re not careful. I have already given myself a couple of very painful scrapes near my feet and ankles after just a day of use. Overtime I am certain ill develop muscle memory reaction to be more careful around the casters. However it would have been nice to make the switches have a softer rounded edge rather than the hard sharp edged corners. Will be giving serious thought to return and opt for the non locking casters instead. The plus side the locking feature works quite well. Also the casters themselves are very aesthetically pleasing. I love the look with my white leather Gesture.

      Hi Jun,

Thank you very much for your constructive feedback. Please note our hybrid casters (Mu and Rokku Mu), while smooth at the onset, will even improve with a short break-in period for the journal bearing tires. The premium chair OEMs definitely use high quality – albeit standard meaning two plastic disks pressed on to a small diameter pin/shaft – casters and often require them to be life-tested at 130% of industry standard (this is definitely not the case for all chair manufacturers). Regardless, without ball bearings there is simply no way a standard caster will perform the same as casters precision ground chrome steel ball bearings over time or with heavier loads. Your comments regarding the brake lever are particularly valuable to us. Typically braking casters are not used on seating and are more for case goods, yet the geometry does present a challenge with respect to interaction with one’s feet if used in seating and this is something we should make people aware of for this particular caster. We have new designs in development (similar to our 92mm braking caster), that will address this challenge. Thank you again, and please let us know if you would like to replace the braking Rokku Mus with Mus.

I’ve used these on my standing desk for about a year now. They work very well. The locking feature was a must and using the enso wheels made it fit in with my chairs. They are smooth and very quiet when moved, and stay put when locked. Much better than products I’ve found from other manufacturers.
