Casters

  1. 70 Mu – The 70 Mu caster (70 mm tire diameter), is the first of its kind. We refer to it as a hybrid because it utilizes one high-precision chrome steel radial ball bearing per caster, and two self-lubricating journal bearings in an efficient arrangement that allows for exceptionally smooth operation and twice the load rating of typical “high-capacity” chair casters, yet with lower costs of production and 30% less weight as compared to our 70 Okina Mu caster. This is the size most often associated with typical office chairs, tables and case goods. Select our 11mm friction sleeve stem mount for chair sockets, and plate mounts or threaded stems for case goods as necessary. Available with and without a brake and with an estimated load capacity of 150 lbs. per caster (5 casters = 750 lbs., 4 casters = 600 lbs.). Covered by US patent 8561258. International patents pending. Certified compliant with BIFMA X5.1 durability standards for office chairs.
  2. 70 Okina Mu – Our flagship chair caster, the 70 Okina Mu (70 mm tire diameter), utilizes two large high-precision chrome steel radial ball bearings per caster. This allows for the ultimate combination of strength, smooth roll and an ethereal, modern aesthetic through a large 35mm central opening (17% larger than our Hybrid 70 mm caster and 25% higher estimated load rating). This is the size most often associated with typical office chairs, tables and case goods. Select our 11mm friction sleeve stem mount for chair sockets, and plate mounts or threaded stems for case goods as necessary. This is a non-braking caster with an estimated load capacity of 200 lbs. per caster (5 casters = 1000 lbs., 4 casters = 800 lbs.). Covered by US patents 6839939, 8561258, and CN patent 100556716. Certified compliant with BIFMA X5.1 durability standards for office chairs.
  3. 92 mm Low Profile – Originally developed in cooperation with Google for the Google Jamboard, this larger diameter low profile tire works well with most cart applications, or for chairs, tables and case goods in deeper carpet piles. It features a thinner tire profile as compared to our 100mm caster but still will accommodate transition over most thresholds (i.e. elevator gaps or flooring transitions) with ease. Select our 11mm friction sleeve stem mount for chair sockets, and plate mounts or threaded stems for case goods as necessary. Available with or without our patented push-button brake and with an estimated load capacity of 200 lbs. per caster (5 casters = 1000 lbs., 4 casters = 800 lbs.). Covered by US patents 6839939, 8561258, 10035376 and CN patent 100556716.
  4. 100 mm High Profile – Originally developed for the Microsoft Surface Hub, this is the largest diameter Enso caster. Used in large and robust cart, table and case good applications where load capacity and threshold accommodation are of primary importance. The standard mount for this caster is a 1/2-13” thread. This is a non-braking caster with an estimated load capacity of 400 lbs. per caster. Covered by US patents 6839939, 8561258, and CN patent 100556716.

Our 70 Okina Mu and 70 Mu casters are meant for seating applications. Most chair OEMs utilize 50-60 mm designs. While ours is slightly larger, it is not so large as to look out of place and seems comparatively light because of the opening through the center of our hubless designs.

Please note, while the 70 Rokku Mu locking caster will fit onto chairs, it is not intended for seating. The braking lever on the 70 Rokku Mu extends approximately 3/8″ out from the rear of the caster. This lever actuated brake was primarily designed for use with case goods, white boards, carts, etc. in mind. When used on seating applications, it is possible for this lever to contact the back of one’s heel when sitting. For this reason, we recommend the non-braking 70 Mu for chair applications unless the braking capability outweighs this potential interference.

Almost all chairs manufactured within the last half century are designed to accommodate a standard 11 mm (7/16″) diameter caster stem (Ikea chairs are the only mainstream brand that we are aware of that deviate from this standard). For this reason, select our Standard 11 mm (7/16″) Chair Mount with any of our casters and you are virtually assured of a secure fit. Proceed without fear, if our stem does not fit within the socket of your chair, we will pay for return shipping and issue a full refund upon receipt.

Each chair mount features a proprietary black acetal friction sleeve that has been designed to expand the entire 1″ length of its surface inside the chair base socket. The friction sleeves must not be removed as the caster will not attach to the chair base without it. In comparison to traditional grip rings roughly the size of a paperclip on virtually all other casters, the Enso design provides maximum support which in turn translates to silent long-term operation.

Most standing desks use an M8 threaded stem. We will be introducing this stem in January 2022 in response to demand.

All Enso products are warranted against manufacturer defect for 5 years from the date of purchase. If for any reason you are unsatisfied with your purchase upon receipt and prior to use, you may return your unused product for a full refund. If our product does not fit your chair (aside from Ikea brands), we will pay for the return shipping.
